We are very pleased with this bed frame. Everything was neatly packaged, labeled perfectly and the assembly instructions were clear and easy to follow. A nice little ratchet wrench was provided which made it so easy to tighten all the bolts. I am a 69 year old lady and put it together in about an hour. I'm impressed with the quality. Zinus really shows attention to detail with this product. They even packaged all the foam packing material in sealed plastic so there was no mess with styrofoam bits when we opened the box. My only comment is that the "grey" headboard is much darker than the picture and I consider it to be black. However, that still fits our decor so is not a problem for us.

This item is beautifully made and sturdy. The packaging kept the items well contained, and the necessary tools were provided for setup. I have looked at numerous reviews on this site and other sites regarding this item, the consensus being this is a well-built frame and headboard. I should note that the grayish color on the pictures is a little misleading, the color is much darker and would be better described as black. The reason I gave this item a four is because it states a box spring is optional. After having this bedframe for about a week, I can tell you I need a box spring. Without the box spring, I felt very low to the ground, and it was an uncomfortable nights sleep. Both my mattress and box spring are about a foot high; since I need both of those items on my bed for a good night's sleep, my bed is HIGH up. Since it is lifted so high the majority of the headboard is covered, with only the top bar showing. Therefore, if you have a smaller (less thick) box spring and mattress, this frame and headboard would be perfectly visible. If your mattress and box spring are thicker, you'll be high up and your headboard will be covered. Overall, if the height doesn't bother you, this is a really nice, functional piece.

Didnt measure but it has 12 slats on the queen bed. Haven't received my mattress yet but i think if you get a box spring and with the mattress it will be very high and cover the headboard. If you are worried about the support get a bunky board which wont be as high as a boxspring.

Slat spacing is 3" inches. We do not recommend a box spring due to weight restrictions.

Size Guide gives measurements as 38.2 L x 38 W. Are you sure the twin bedframe is 38.2" long?
Yes it is.

Are the slats to be fastened to the frame so that they won't slip?
Yes there is adhesive tape and Velcro attached to the wood slates you see pictured. I’ve had my bed built for a couple of months now and I have not used the adhesive tape, so the Velcro has sufficed.

What color is the wood that runs horizontal across the headboard? They look like a slate gray. ...
The color pictured was definitely not true to the beds I received. The slate gray planks arrived jet black. Luckily this is all real wood and I was able to sand them down to the finish pictured online. If you don't have a power sander though or a place you don't mind getting covered in black dust, I would consider another bed.
