I purchased this platform bed 2 years ago and just had to dismantle it in order to move to a new apartment. I wanted to write a review incase anyone is wondering about moving with this bed and if it is doable. There are four horizontal pieces of wood that slide into the center with three particle boards that lay on top to support the mattress which pop out very easily. The frame itself just required loosening one screw at each corner and the pieces pulled apart with gentle wiggling. To put the frame back together all we have to do make sure the pieces are inserted at the corners, retighten the screws and then put the supporting wood back and it should only take about 20 mins tops.

This bed is easy to assemble and it’s very sturdy. It does sway a little bit if you try to move it around. Other than that it’s actually really heavy.

Got rid of my old metal bed frame and ratty old box spring. Paired with a Sleep Revolution memory foam matress, this is heaven!! The platform is about an inch bigger than the mattress on the sides, but this isn't noticeable as I have a queen/full quilt that I leave untucked on the sides. This was a great price and easy to assemble by myself. Would highly recommend for the price. I was also pleased with the full particle boards for the platform instead of slats, as this is much better with a memory foam mattress.

Loving the bed, its solid, and I love the gray color. Dont expect real stained wood, its obviously laminate covered particle board for the price you're getting.I am a tiny little girl, 5'6" and about 119 lbs. The package is super heavy and you would need someone to help you carry it into your place, or you would end up doing what I did: pressing your back against the wall and shoving it down some steps with your feet. i highly recommend having a buddy help you move the package if you are tiny like me.Everything came with the unit, directions werent too bad. It said you needed two people to help you assemble it, however, i was able to do it all by myself in about an hour, maybe less. Its easier to assemble than my IKEA malm bed i had before this South Shore. The parts seem a lot more sturdy too.I used a little drill to help me, you are definitely gonna need it. There are a couple parts in the directions that asked you to drill into the particle board where there were no holes. If you only have a screwdriver I can see how you can double your assembly time using all that elbow grease. Definitely recommend a drill. You are also going to need a hammer to tap some plugs in snugly, and a measuring tape to figure out the center for where you are going to drill those holes. Don worry, its only for a couple parts.Design wise i wasn't really happy with the flat boards that lay on top. I purchased a FULL size bed and when i placed my mattress on top of the finished product, you can see about 3" of the particle board all the way around your mattress. I think I am going to have to paint it so it doesnt stick out.Over all the unit is sturdy and strong, just not that aesthetically pleasing with the exposed particle board. The unit is sturdy and doesn't make a lot of noise when you move around, super easy to build by yourself. Girl approved.Read more

It looks really nice. It's pretty sturdy for press-board or whatever it is. It's definitely not engineered wood though - it's a veneer over particle board. Having said this, it looks good and so long as it's not abused, should last a good while. Color is very nice. The legs stand out from the frame, so it's easy to catch your shins on it as you walk by it, if you're not paying attention to where you step. Paired it with the Fynn headboard and it looks really good. My son loves it. If you attach a headboard though, you're going to probably want to wall-mount a bracket to add stability, because the headboard only attaches to the platform at the bottom. We have this pushed up against a wall, but there's still some wiggle room. Will be adding brackets of some type.Over all, for the price, this is a decent bedroom set for a young adult. It's not heirloom quality of course, but if you're not too picky and don't have a lot of money to spend, I think you will be very pleased with the look. The longevity remains to be seen.Assembly is tedious, but not difficult. Just leave yourself lots of room and read the instructions completely through once before starting the steps. Did not use power tools, per instructions, but so long as you are careful, I think an electric screwdriver (phillips)/drill would not be remiss. Put this bed together in about an hour. None of the pieces required two adults (maybe two hobbits..?).Would I buy it again? The bed, headboard, and nightstand - yes. The long dresser - no. If you can pick it up and avoid shipping, that would be ideal.Read more

This bed looks great until you place the mattress on it. This says it is for a Full mattress, yet it is roughly 5 inches too long and 4 inches too wide. This took a few hours to assemble and it was incredibly disappointing to see that we had to take it apart and now have to get this sent back. The headboard is awesome, I just wish the platform bed was true to size because it looks terrible.

I just bought this frame and we put it together it seemed sturdy as I have had other south shore stuff that has lasted. my daughter sat on the corner of her bed to put her shoes on and heard a crack I thought it was the wood settling. later that night she came to me and said she was laying down watching tv and the whole bed frame just fell and her and the mattress ended up on the floor. would never buy again anything from them. My daughter is 18 and pregnant so she doesn't jump or rough play on the bed.

However with a clear bed you are assured that it will bring the best no matter what color you chose for your bedroom walls and furniture. A clear bed brings about tranquility into your bedroom, creating the perfect relaxing space after a long day at work. A clear bed may not be common in many households but it’s the new trend especially with the younger generation who are more into creating a bedroom environment that perfectly fits into their mood. When designing your bedroom interior décor and you have chosen to go with a clear bed you can let your creativity run wild since the clear bed will blend seamlessly no matter what color you opt for.

Platform

You may be looking for a bed that is timeless and cost-effective and maybe your life quote is "simplicity is beauty," then you can swear by platform beds. A platform bed is a simple bed frame that has a solid foundation capable to hold any type of mattress without the need of a box spring. It also comes with built-in slats to allow airflow and breathability. And since box springs are unnecessary, you can save money if you decide to buy a new mattress.

Though simple, it doesn't mean that this type of bed is boring. Platform beds come from various materials, such wood, metal, and fiberboard. You may even have them upholstered for an added classic touch! Ideal for all ages, they are also available in different sizes: twin, full, queen, and king. Interestingly, platform beds are great for storing extra stuff since many of them come with drawers and headboard shelving, perfect for keeping your bedroom tidy.

Single Material

When you need to kick back and unwind on your own, you need a single-material bed. Single-material beds are an excellent choice for anyone that likes simplicity and practicality. Without combining materials, you get a clean and uniform looking bed that will match any bedroom. The con of a single-material bed is that they won’t stand out as much as other beds, but this can also be a pro as well, as it means they’ll easily blend into any room and not take attention away from other features that are nearby. The single-material is recommended if you’re after a bed for a minimalist setting, something that looks very simple and neutral - then you’re going to be satisfied by the single-material bed. Single-material beds also look great when you have two separate beds in the same room - the single-material look really gives the room a strong, matching and consistent appearance.

Wood

A wooden bed is a very popular choice especially when you are out buying a bed for your kids as they come with a number of advantages. Such as: wooden beds are known to be long lasting. At one point in life most of us have slept in a wooden bed, plus wooden beds can be traced back in history to our Tudor ancestors. If you opt to get you kid a bed of his or her own a wooden bed is always the best choice, since they are much easier to clean and maintain since its common knowledge how messy a child’s bedroom become. What makes a wooden bed the perfect choice for your child’s bedroom is its ability to withstand everything your child throws at it. This is because wooden beds are known to be sturdy and robust no matter the environment they are in.

Hardwoods

Hardwood wood varieties refer to the type of tree the wood is taken from; it has nothing to do with how heavy or dense the wood is (contrary to popular belief!). Hardwood woods are sourced from trees that have leaves and lose their leaves in the winter months. Types of hardwood trees include hickory, maple, oak, birch and cherry (among others). Wood from hardwood trees is usually harder and therefore more dense, as these trees tend to grow at a slower rate. Hardwood is ideal for use in indoor furniture crafting, as it is sturdy and durable. Most hardwood varieties are bright and beautiful in their natural tone/shade, but many take well to staining, finishes and paints. The hardwood varieties offer a cozy, warm look and enrich your bedroom style. Hardwood bed frames are a great way to brighten your bedroom and enhance the overall look and feel of your sleep space!

Oak

If you’re looking for a way to refurbish your sleep space, purchasing an oak bed should be at the top of your to-do list! Oak is a classic, refined and traditional wood finish that is simply gorgeous. A natural oak finish is typically a warm cherry brown color; however, oak takes to staining quite well. This allows you to change up the look of your furniture to match your ever-changing style and design preferences. The simple grain patterns in oak wood are beautiful and understated; this gives you a timeless look for your bedroom that you’re sure to love for years to come. Oak is heavier than some of the other wood varieties, so assembly of any bedroom furniture is best if there are two or more people. Once properly assembled, oak furniture enhances the coziness of your bedroom and can add a rustic flair to your design motif.
