I'd rate this 3.5 stars if I had the option. The quality is above-average for this kind of low-end pressed wood product. When constructed it is very solid. And there really isn't else like it on the market; it is definitely visually distinctive.On the other hand...in terms of function I have some criticisms. First, if you're using this under a big television, do your homework, calculations and measurements of the ideal viewing height for mounting the television (around eye level where you will be sitting). Then work "down" towards the floor and account for room for a soundbar (if you'll be using one under your set), and then the 16" for this unit. In my case this meant that the outlet cover was hitting one of the horizontal-running shelves in the back. Since the unit must mount absolutely flush to the wall, this was not going to work. So I had to re-mount closer to the floor than I would have liked (to make room for soundbar and tv centered for ideal viewing height), meaning the outlet was no longer in the "hidden" compartment. Ultimately not a big deal since as others have pointed out, you're probably wanting to make some "inserts" (I used some 18 5/8 x 5 1/2 pieces of 1x6 painted dark with a little knob on the front of each) to "hide" the wall behind. Why this unit didn't come with something like this--cheap little pieces you could use or not--is beyond me.I'm also not sold on the usefulness of the "hidden" compartment below, which you can only access from below (good luck if you've mounted it close to the floor...otherwise you'll need to fish all your wires/cables and components through before you mount it to the wall, then remove and remount every time you switch components around). The cutout to reach inside is not all that big, so have fun getting some surge protectors in there. Why that "hiding" compartment isn't hinged or otherwise removable *from the front* is a mystery.But even with all these hassles I would recommend the unit...just plan ahead and be prepared for more work than you might think...Read more
