Originally I had a bed that went all the way to the floor - similar to this one but the difference was that I couldn't put anything under it. Upgraded to this one and now it's like I have an extra storage closet!! Love it. Already filled it to the brim too but it helped to clear out my actual storage closet to make room for other things. It's also a great place to store all of my bedding (pillows, blankets, sheets, etc).I was able to put this together in 1 hour and 3 minutes completely alone, but a second person would have definitely made things easier/faster. I've included the instructions (pictures) so you can see what to expect. The most difficult part to do by myself was to add the main frame that holds the bed onto the lifting arms (and get them screwed on). But I managed to do it in a matter of minutes anyway :) Other than that part, it was all pretty easy. Great, easy to follow instructions.A couple of tips/notes:- A single person can put this together but it'll definitely make things easier if you have another person there to help.- On step 5, I added the "N" brackets to the bed frame FIRST and then lifted the frame to add the "Z" legs - this was much easier than doing it the way they say to do it (which is to add the legs to the brackets first and THEN mount the whole thing onto the bed frame). Doing it this way also allowed me to do it on my own (instead of having someone else there just lifting the bed while I screwed the bracket/leg assembly on).- DON'T LOSE ANY OF THE SCREWS! This kit only comes with the EXACT number of nuts and bolts required, not a single extra nut or bolt is included so be sure you don't lose any. I recommend using a magnetic wrist band (made for holding nuts and bolts) if you have one. Or just keep every nut and bolt in the case until you're ready to use them.- If you wanted to, you could remove the large base boards (inside of the "container" area) to get a little bit more space. Of course then you might see things under the bed. Just an option if something is too tall to fit in there.- Use double-sided tape on a few of the wooden slats that the mattress sits on - this will prevent the mattress from sliding when you lift the compartment. The little metal brackets that are supposed to stop the bed from sliding were not working well for my 8" thick memory foam mattress.- Always wrap your mattress in an anti bed-bug cover! This will basically prevent you from ever getting bed bugs. They work amazingly well.- You do not need a box spring on this bed. It has slats that are meant to replace the box spring so just place your mattress directly on top.- Bed size is 79.5"L x 56.5"W x 42.5"H. Measure out a space for it before you order :)Other things worth noting:- The lift is VERY strong. It has no problem at all lifting this somewhat heavy/dense, full-size memory foam mattress. In fact, it's more difficult to pull the bed DOWN than it is to lift UP :D That means I can add all of my bedding and it still has no trouble lifting up. Of course when you put it down, it kind of locks into place (not really but it passes the point of resistance/lifting power) - so there's no chance of it just lifting on its own.- I paid $325 for this bed, which I thought was an ok deal - but then the price went way up. I don't think I would have bought it if it was more than $325. I thought even $325 was a little high..Hope this is helpful to someone else out there! :)Read more

It took my daughter and I about 4 hours to put this together but we love it. Looks and feels very high quality. We have a 14 inch mattress on it so you don't see much of the headboard once the pillows are on the bed. I was worried that the lift mechanism might not work or not work well but once it was all put together it is perfect. My daughter is extremely happy with her beautiful new bed and I'm thrilled that we have that storage space but I do with it was a few inches deeper.

This is a fantastic bed for a New Yorker in a small apartment. My closet is literally one foot wide so having the extra storage for out of season clothing, extra bedding and luggage really saves my life. You could put those things under a normal bed in a normal bedroom, but this completely prevents having to lug out under bed bins and also not having tons of space on either side to do so.The depth is about a foot. I do have one very large suitcase that won't fit underneath, but all my carry on luggage fits below. I have four large rolling underbed storage boxes inside, two carry on sized suitcases (filled with other travel paraphernalia and duffes, tote bags etc, my laptop bag, extra towels, 3 sheets sets with pillowcases and random small items that I just don't need to have out but cant part with.I'm 5'6" and have no issues lifting the bed up to access the storage or putting it back down, although I do have to reach and give a hard push down. It might be difficult for someone very short or without a lot of strength. There is a pull strap at the foot of the frame to assist with this if you can't reach the top but I feel like it's a lot harder to pull down that way.Assembly was not super easy. We made a few missteps and had to retrace our steps to get it right. I'm probably not going to enjoy moving this when the time comes either, but that's not in the near future and since I got the full size, I would imagine I might be able to move it intact. There is a gridlike support base inside of the storage area - so the bed isn't open to the floor. You would have to be careful to put smaller heavier objects onto the support base and not in the space in between, though there is a thin fabric covered liner that goes on top of the base... it just didn't feel incredibly strong to me.I am using this with a memory foam mattress and no box spring. I understand that this bed can be used with both, but personally, I think it would look weird and cover up a large portion of the headboard. There is a full sprung wood base that's part of the bed, so I think most mattresses could be used on this without a box spring. My memory foam seemed much more comfortable and seemed to have more give after taking it off of the old box spring I was using previously.I paid around $275 for this bed on Amazon. It's the same bed you can find on Ostock although it's listed as a different manufacturer on their website. When I was shopping around for a new bed, they had it listed for almost $100 more on their website. One caveat - I was missing pieces important for Step 2 when I initially received the bed. However, DHP had the parts sent out to me fairly quickly, but required a lot of documentation to get them. Still. Worth it. I love this bed.Read more

I waited a long time to write a review on this. I wanted to live in the bed for a while before reflecting on it’s quality or functionality. This bed is everything I dreamed it would be. I love this bed. It looks absolutely amazing. The quality is unbelievable. The weight is fabulous and sturdy. We are so thrilled that we tried something new and scary.I remember reading others mention the black backing on this bed. It is a very simple fabric that covers the back. Truthfully, my bed is against a wall and I haven’t noticed it at all. This material in no way affects my appreciation of this bed.I did quite a bit of research before we purchased this product. Some reviews made me nervous about the wooden slats, so I decided to buy a bunkie board instead. We drilled a few holes in the bunkie board frame for the gas lift mechanism, and just swapped it for the slats. This was so easy and it works perfectly. The bunkie board has its own metal support bars, so I can’t comment on the issue some people have had with the center support bar bending over time. The bed is sturdy and silent for us.I’m fairly petite and I can easily raise and lower the bed. I love the extra storage. I can’t believe every bed doesn’t function this way.. they should!Read more

One respondent mentioned the inability to obtain a replacement for a defective lift mechanism. Has anyone else had similar experience?
Hi,The gas lifts are often thought to be defective because of how rigid they are. They are tested repeatedly before leaving the factory however, as long as you can show us that there is a problem with any part that you have then we will replace it.

Black

When trying to open up a smaller bedroom most people often think about bright colors with light hues, but also there is a stronger advantage for going darker and there is no better way to do that than with a black bed. Black is known to amplify small spaces and also set the right mood in your bedroom space. A black colored bed makes your bedroom fell more intimate and special in ways that you could have never imagined before, something that you would never achieve with any of those bright colors. There is nothing as important as setting the right mood in your bedroom especially if you are a couple since it’s the base of your relationship romantically. A black bed adds a touch of intrigue but still blends right into the bedroom décor colors creating a timeless look.

Gray

Gray as a color can be somehow depressing and uninspiring especially in a darker bedroom, and as you already know sleeping in a gray bedroom is not as satisfying as sleeping in a brighter bedroom. Gray might not be as inviting as other colors but that doesn’t mean that a Gray bed is not a good choice for your bedroom. All you need to know before choosing a gray bed or any other no so bright colored bed is which bedroom décor is the best for that specific bed color. With a gray bed it can be really advantageous especially if you have an all-white bedroom since it will tone down the general look for your bedroom, creating some form of contrast. In case you have a bright bedroom and you wish to tone down I would definitely recommend for you a gray bed to help tone down your bedroom décor.

Platform

You may be looking for a bed that is timeless and cost-effective and maybe your life quote is "simplicity is beauty," then you can swear by platform beds. A platform bed is a simple bed frame that has a solid foundation capable to hold any type of mattress without the need of a box spring. It also comes with built-in slats to allow airflow and breathability. And since box springs are unnecessary, you can save money if you decide to buy a new mattress.

Though simple, it doesn't mean that this type of bed is boring. Platform beds come from various materials, such wood, metal, and fiberboard. You may even have them upholstered for an added classic touch! Ideal for all ages, they are also available in different sizes: twin, full, queen, and king. Interestingly, platform beds are great for storing extra stuff since many of them come with drawers and headboard shelving, perfect for keeping your bedroom tidy.

Storage Included

When your bedroom space is small storage can be the biggest challenge you will encounter. Your closet could be a solution but not big enough to pack so many clothes. Well, you may want to buy a bigger cabinet, but you don’t want to pack so many dressers and cabinets into your space that it feels clunky and crowded. Storage beds are a fantastic way to get more space without adding extra furniture, and a lot of them are so stylishly designed you almost don’t notice the drawers are there. This bed design offers a great way to make the most of the space in your room, giving you a place to stash clothes, bedding, and more inside or beneath your bed frame. The best storage beds feature spacious compartments that are easy to access, and with tons of styles to choose from. The most common options are shelves built into the headboard or drawers built into the frame below the mattress. Depending on the reason you want space, a storage bed provides easy access, but if you're storing items that you don't need to get to very often, you can opt for a spacious platform beneath the bed that can be accessed when you lift the mattress. Ultimately, your choice will come down to what's most convenient for you.

Tufted

When looking for a bed that will bring class and comfort to your bedroom, all you need is a tufted bed. The tufted bed has a soft headboard that is not only padded but also tufted meaning the fabric is threaded together and secured with either a button or a classy knot. This kind of bed is well known for bringing elegance to a room embodying a cozy aesthetic and providing a focal point. With this kind of bed, you will have a good backrest while watching TV or reading your best novel or magazine. Tufted beds come in different array of colors, sizes, and great styles to pick from. The tufted bed is made in a way that is inviting and a wonderfully elegant way of taking this indulgent opulence to the next level.

Single Material

When you need to kick back and unwind on your own, you need a single-material bed. Single-material beds are an excellent choice for anyone that likes simplicity and practicality. Without combining materials, you get a clean and uniform looking bed that will match any bedroom. The con of a single-material bed is that they won’t stand out as much as other beds, but this can also be a pro as well, as it means they’ll easily blend into any room and not take attention away from other features that are nearby. The single-material is recommended if you’re after a bed for a minimalist setting, something that looks very simple and neutral - then you’re going to be satisfied by the single-material bed. Single-material beds also look great when you have two separate beds in the same room - the single-material look really gives the room a strong, matching and consistent appearance.

Upholstered

Upholstered beds are becoming increasingly popular mainly due to their versatility, convenience, and comfort. It has become so common to come across a well-designed upholstered bed, for example you could be reading through your favorite home magazine and start to notice how good bedrooms fitted with upholstered beds look. Whether you are a modern minimalist or a maximalist, an upholstered bed can be customized to fit your aesthetic or to match the rest of your bedroom furniture from your bohemian wall art to your traditional nightstands. Fabrics are also soft and comfortable and can even make your bed stand out from the rest of your furnishings.

There are different types of fabric-upholstered bed depending on the textile used and each of them has its distinct advantages and disadvantages. A linen-upholstered bed is breathable, easy to clean, and hypo-allergenic, but is prone to wrinkles and low stain-resistance. A velvet-upholstered bed is good for those with pets and can be dyed in rich colors, but high-maintenance and very expensive. A cotton-upholstered bed is abrasion-resistant and allows you to maintain a cool feeling, but not that stain-resistant and its fibers may weaken when directly exposed to sunlight. A corduroy-upholstered bed is durable, low-maintenance, and inexpensive, but can be heavy. But, whichever type you choose, surely fabric can turn your bed into a comfortable one.

Faux Leather

Faux-leather is the best choice for anyone that wants that luxurious leather look, without having to spend the extra money on real leather. It can look just as nice as genuine leather. If you look after this faux-leather upholstery, it will last you a very long time - just keep it away from anything hot! A great choice for all bedroom settings. Keep it clean by just wiping it down with a warm cloth.

Leather

Leather is a traditional upholstery material for a reason. It looks great, feels fantastic and is long-lasting. It also has some symbolism attached to it - leather upholstery says things without verbalising them. It says "class". It says "luxury". It says "style".
